Overview

To walk in our doors is to fall in love with our mission. When you get the opportunity to hear deaf children speaking, and speaking well, that says it all! We couldn’t do it without the support of individuals like you!

Desert Voices is a 501(c)(3) organization and relies heavily on private donations to achieve it’s mission. The average cost per child to attend Desert Voices is more than double what the state approved yearly tuition is. This results in more than 80% of our annual budget coming from corporations, foundations and individuals.

There are many ways that you can help and listed below are just a few. Please contact our Development Department at (602) 224-0598 or info@desert-voices.org to see how you can help give deaf children a voice!

Arizona Scholarship Fund

Website: www.azScholarships.org

The State of Arizona offers tax payers the opportunity to receive a dollar for dollar state tax credit by making a donation towards private school tuition assistance. Desert Voices is eligible to receive those donations to help support its mission. Married couples filing jointly can donate up to $1,000 and single individuals can donate up to $500 per year. All donations need to be made online or postmarked by midnight, December 31st in order to receive a tax credit for that year. The donations need to be made through the Arizona Scholarship Fund and you need to designate that you would like your donation credited to Desert Voices’ School Specific Fund. This is the only way to ensure that Desert Voices receives your tax credit donation. If you do this, Desert Voices has full control over pulling those funds out and it is the only way they are guaranteed to receive those funds. Please DO NOT select any of the other funds that are listed, as those are administered by the Arizona Scholarship Fund (ASF). ASF will make the final determination as to the allocation of those funds and there is no guarantee that it will be a student of Desert Voices.

While this is a great program for tax payers, there does tend to be a lot of questions and confusion regarding it. If you have any questions or need any clarification, please contact Desert Voices directly at (602) 224-0598 or info@desert-voices.org

Birdies for Charity

Website: www.BirdiesForCharityArizona.org

The Thunderbirds and title sponsor Waste Management have an exciting way for Desert Voices to cash-in on the birdies made during the competitive rounds of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The program titled Birdies for Charity has two separate components – the Waste Management Phoenix Open Arizona Charity Pledge Drive component and the Corporate Partners component – both geared towards raising thousands of additional dollars for Arizona charities.

Birdies for Charity allows parents, alumni, donors and staff to get involved in a pledge drive program based on the total number of birdies made during the 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Anyone can fill-out a pledge form and pledge one cent or more per birdie to be a part of the program. Donor incentives include more than 100 great prizes – all awarded through a random drawing of collected pledges approximately two months after the conclusion of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The greatest part about this event is that everything is handled by the Thunderbirds. Our expenses are basically none, so 100% of the collected pledges directly benefits us! In addition, the Thunderbirds have graciously matched 10% of all collected pledges for the past year, so this is a great opportunity to have your support go even further. Check back for information regarding the 2011 Birdies for Charity pledge drive – new forms will be available in August 2010.

For the past five years, Schuff Steel has been proud to support the efforts of Desert Voices by naming it the beneficiary of the annual Schuff Steel Charity Golf Classic. Each year, Schuff employees, customers and vendors gather together for a day filled with eagles, birdies, pars and let’s face it, more bogeys than they want to admit. Most importantly, they get together to raise funds to support the efforts of Desert Voices, the organization that has made a huge impact on one of their own, Rik and Dawn Kempton, who’s daughter, Ashley, attended Desert Voices.
